Senate Votes No On Homosexual Activist Becoming Ambassador

On December 12, 2011, the Senate  voted against moving forward with the appointment of Mari Carmen Aponte. Liberty Counsel Action is pleased with this vote, and in fact, encouraged Senators to vote no.

This is the letter that Liberty Counsel Action faxed to your senators:

Dear Senator:

Liberty Counsel Action (LCA), on behalf of more than 750,000 members nationwide, would like to urge you to vote against the nomination of Mari Carmen Aponte, to be U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador and will include your cloture vote on Aponte in its Congressional Scorecard for the 112th Congress.

While the looming concerns about her qualifications along with an FBI investigation involving an eight year relationship with a man thought to be part of a Cuban intelligence ring are disconcerting, LCA’s members are concerned about Ambassador Aponte’s radical social engineering agenda in Latin America and its affect on our relationships with Latin American countries.

In June 2011, Ambassador Mari Carmen Aponte, published an article in a local Salvadoran newspaper denouncing the country’s decision to affirm marriage as the union of a man and a woman. In response, a coalition of 22 Latin American groups sent a letter to the U.S. Senate stating, “Madam Ambassador Aponte has abused her diplomatic status, showing a clear disdain concerning our values and cultural identity, claiming to ‘guide’ us toward a shift in our way of thinking so that we may accept multiple forms of sexual behavior as legitimate, in the same way that President Obama promotes,” and calling Senators to remove her from her position as Ambassador.

Now, rather than considering removing her, the Senate is considering confirming her. The confirmation of Mari Carmen Aponte would confirm to the Salvadorian people a complete disregard and disrespect for their views and fundamental beliefs. Thus, LCA encourages you to vote against cloture on the nomination of Mari Carmen Aponte and will include your cloture vote on this controversial nominee in its Congressional Scorecard for the 112th Congress.
